Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (Atria Books)

September 3, 2020
Dear Mr. Hemingway,
Is it possible to fall in love with an author’s work, EVERY SINGLE TIME ???? Apparently so! I have just been WOWED again. Fredrik Backman’s new book, Anxious People, comes out next week (September 8, 2020) and he once again delivers a five star read. Move over Bear Town and A Man Called Ove. There are some new Backman characters in town that need some loving. Not only is Anxious People one of the most anticipated reads of this fall, but Backman is my all time favorite author. There is a chance that I may be changing the name of this blog from Dear Mr. Hemingway to Dear Mr. Backman 😂🤣😂!
Though all of Backman’s books are different, they have one thing in common…PEOPLE. Anxious People is no exception. Backman’s gift is that he allows his readers to view the world from someone else’s perspective. Only Backman can turn a failed bank robbery and hostage situation into a lesson in humanity. He once again turns his characters inside out on the pages of his books exposing all of their flaws, all of their most vulnerable sides. Whether you are fond of his characters or not, you will no doubt understand them at the end of his story. What I love about his new book (and all the rest of his books), is not only his talent for meshing together quirky and oftentimes struggling folks, but that he knows how to truly find humor in the most unexpected places. From everyday life to the absurdities that are thrown our way, Backman will get you to smile.
In my opinion, everything that Fredrik Backman writes is pure gold. He continues to dazzle me with his signature sarcasm and overflowing compassion. If you are a fan of his work, you will not be disappointed with Anxious People. Enjoy this treasure! I sure did!
Check out the synopsis!
”Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything, from where they want to live to how they met in the first place. Add to the mix an eighty-seven-year-old woman who has lived long enough not to be afraid of someone waving a gun in her face, a flustered but still-ready-to-make-a-deal real estate agent, and a mystery man who has locked himself in the apartment’s only bathroom, and you’ve got the worst group of hostages in the world.
Each of them carries a lifetime of grievances, hurts, secrets, and passions that are ready to boil over. None of them is entirely who they appear to be. And all of them—the bank robber included—desperately crave some sort of rescue. As the authorities and the media surround the premises these reluctant allies will reveal surprising truths about themselves and set in motion a chain of events so unexpected that even they can hardly explain what happens next.”
Until next time!
